Dr. Hunter Downs has over 25 years of experience in analysis and acquisition of images both in the medical and reconnaissance domains. He has been the principal investigator on over thirty different awards (totaling more than $30M) for projects on topics including telerobotic surgical mentoring, functional imaging, intelligent algorithms for fatigue prediction, geospatial reasoning, brain machine interface, and augmented cognition.
He is a past Associate Professor at the University of Virginia where he was in the departments of Psychiatric Medicine, Neurological Surgery, and Biomedical Engineering. He has served as an advisor to the World Health Organization, an expert consultant to the U.S. Army’s National Ground Intelligence Center, and a peer-reviewer on a number of panels including the U.S. Army Combat Casualty Care Section.
He has authored or co-authored over 60 scientific publications, including three book chapters. He has also developed a commercial system for nuclear medicine image processing and products for monitoring human fatigue.
In 2003 he was awarded the Pacific Business News “Forty under Forty” award for the best business leaders under the age of 40 in Hawaii and, in 2011, Entrepreneur of the Year by the Hawaii Venture Capital Association.
