Archinoetics’ Corvid is a video analytics software package that performs automated object detection, combining an intuitive user interface with custom algorithm engines for a plug-in solution to industry-leading security software products. It offers improved automated surveillance with minimal setup time and decreased false alarms. Unlike existing video motion detection, Corvid can detect objects that are stationary, even in outdoor or marine environments, while decreasing the false alerts caused by environmental motion. These capabilities make Corvid effective for applications such as occupancy monitoring for harbor slips, intrusion detection in outdoor areas, and marine target detection.
The unique algorithms that drive Corvid eliminate downtime when switching between scenes, allowing seamless automated surveillance for a multiple-view tour from a pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera. This capability enables coverage of a larger area with a single PTZ camera, reducing the costs for equipment and installation.
Corvid bridges the gap in existing video analytics offerings for a wide range of applications, providing effective automated surveillance in outdoor environments and allowing full utilization of equipment capabilities.
Algorithms
The key to the Corvid analytics is a custom set of algorithms developed by Archinoetics called SAPIEN (Self-Aware Planner Interface & Engine). This SAPIEN toolkit was developed under a DARPA Phase I SBIR and is currently funded for continued development under a Phase II SBIR through DARPA TCTO. SAPIEN provides the tools to add self-optimization and self-awareness to systems that monitor their performance by building models of system performance, then suggesting new configurations likely to improve performance, continually learning throughout its use.
Image Processing Capabilities
In addition to the core capabilities of semantic object detection with the elimination of retraining time between scenes that Corvid offers, the tool also includes a layer of custom image processing to increase the effectiveness of the algorithms in outdoor environments.
Corvid’s image stabilization provides real-time correction for image movement caused by even extreme camera sway in inclement weather conditions. This feature is critical in maintaining the accuracy of the object detection and consistency between frames for region-of-interest selections.
Custom image enhancement and normalization reduce variations between frames due to differences in lighting over time. This reduces false alarms caused by glare and eliminates the need for complex modeling to compensate for lighting changes based on the time of day.
These capabilities combine for a video analytics package that is robust to a wide range of applications by addressing challenges that face analytics technologies currently in use, especially in complex outdoor or marine environments.
Lenel OnGuard Integration
The Corvid technology complements existing video analytics offerings in Lenel’s OnGuard product suite and integrates with the OnGuard interface by delivering messages to the interface when alerts are triggered. The Corvid analytics capabilities are more robust than those offered by OnGuard in that there are fewer false positives in outdoor/marine settings and eliminate downtime between scenes in a multi-scene tour when using a pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera.
In 2010, Corvid received Lenel OnGuard 2008 and 2009 certification and was announced as an Alliance partner to Lenel VARs.
